Eight years ago, I was stuck in a toxic job, desperately trying to pivot from agency to corporate recruitment.
For almost 15 months, I applied strategically, networked with over 100+ recruiters, and positioned myself for interviews—but nothing worked. I felt embarrassed and defeated. After all, I was a recruiter who couldn’t find a job.
That’s when a former boss and mentor encouraged me to explore career coaching, something I’d always done informally and loved. I revamped my resume to highlight my coaching skills, including pro-bono work I’d done, and shifted my job search toward coaching roles.

Within three months, I landed a career coaching job at a university with a $13,000 salary increase and a free MBA.

I'm Ibiyemi Balogun

A Career Transition Coach with over 10 years of experience guiding professionals through meaningful career changes. My background includes extensive work in diversity recruitment as a third-party recruiter, as well as running the career centre for MBA students at Canada’s largest business school.

But this isn’t just professional for me, it’s personal. I’ve made four major career pivots of my own, including one that took 18 months to figure out. I understand the emotional and strategic challenges that come with feeling stuck or unfulfilled, and the courage it takes to make a change.

Today, I’m the founder of Foot In The Door Consulting and Foot Out The Door, two platforms committed to helping mid-career professionals and early-stage entrepreneurs build careers and businesses that actually work for them.
